The Winter Reading Challenge begins Monday, December 11! Log your minutes read and book titles read. Make sure to turn in your reading log by Friday, January 12.

Important Dates

  • December 11: First day of the Winter Reading Challenge
  • January 12: Last day to turn in your reading log and collect prizes

How to Participate

  • Pick up a reading log from the Children's Desk (Youth and Teen) or Reference Desk (Adult) beginning December 11.  You can also come back to this page on December 11 to download a reading log from home.
    • Youth Winter Reading Club; ages 0-17
    • Adult Winter Reading Club; ages 18 and up
  • Keep track of your reading on your reading log.
  • When you're finished, bring it to the Allen Public Library for your prize (while supplies last). Only one log per participant.


What Counts as Reading Material?

Books, eBooks, audiobooks, eAudiobooks, comics, magazines, eMagazines, newspapers, graphic novels, manga, blogs, or anything you can get your hands on to read. Visit our Digital Library page for access to our digital content.

Reading Requirements

Log your books and/or minutes read by January 12 to complete the Winter Reading Challenge. Reading requirements will vary by program. Please refer to your reading log for details under your specific program.

Youth

For the Youth program, read 300 minutes or 30 books. Log books or minutes! 

Adults

For Adults, read three books or 300 minutes (this is five hours). Log books or minutes!

Prizes are available while supplies last. See the Children's Desk for Youth prizes and the Reference Desk for Adult prizes.

Youth

Pick up prizes at the Children's Desk.

Preschool:

  • Free book!
  • Winter animal stuffy
  • Coupon

 Elementary:

  • Free book!
  • Scented mechanical pencil
  • Scented bookmark
  • Coupon

Teen:

  • Free book!
  • Candy cane
  • Scented bookmark

Adults

Get a full-size chocolate bar and a coupon for a free book from the Friends of the Library book sale. Prizes may be picked up from the Reference Desk.
